Why would you want to lose weight fast if it’s to put it back on again in a maximum of 3 years? Would you then be prepared to battle all over again? Slow weight loss is the best way to go.

Having a healthy weight is about lifestyle. To change the different factors that influence your weight, you have to give yourself some time and be patient. The superficial diets will give you results in the short term. But if you don’t  work on your lifestyle  the weight problem will be recurrent.

One of the easiest ways to check if your weight loss technique is efficient is to ask yourself this question : Will I be able to do this for the rest of my life ? If the answer is no, it’s simple : you ARE going to put back all the lost pounds and maybe even more.

1. Diets put your physical health at risk : You can create deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, dehydration, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, digestive problems (e.g: irritable bowel), hormone disruption and so on.

2. Diets put your mental health at risk :  When certain foods are forbidden it is natural to want to transgress the ban!  You will then feel guilt,  you will have a sense of failure, a loss of control and  you are likely to lose the pleasure of eating. Restrictive diets can cause obsessions, a conflicting relationship with food that could ultimately affect your self-esteem.

3. Diets are generally not effective and can lead to weight gains  : The chances are  that you’ll manage to lose weight in the short term but the majority of people will put it all back again and maybe even more. If you starve your body, it will defend itself by slowing down and storing extra energy (as fat) as soon as you start eating again. And you will start eating again because never eating carbs or only drinking smoothies is not sustainable. This is what we call the yo-yo effect.

4.When losing weight, are you sure you are losing just fat ?  : Losing weight fast, as promised in the ‘miracle diets’ can be explained by a loss of muscle mass and dehydration. I could not agree more. Every time I see a commercial with a celebrity touting some quick weight loss program I cringe. Besides the dubious effectiveness of the program itself, the food itself is highly processed and is not remotely healthy.

Far better to eat healthy and natural foods in moderation!
