Why weighing yourself too often is not relevant (graphs)

To explain what to expect when losing weight, let’s look at it the other way around.

To explain weight loss, let’s look at weight gain.

Weight gain over time is not linear. It doesn’t increase as a straight line.

Each day, we are not necessarily heavier than the previous day.

Here are two examples.

Example 1 : The first one is of a blogger who tracked his weight changes for an amazing 32 years.
And note that this is someone who yo-yo dieted.   link

Example 2 : And now this second graph shows someone else’s weight gain over a course of 9 months.

So if weight gain is a serrated graph and not a straight line,
why expect anything else from weight loss?

This here, will never happen:

So just like weight gain, weight loss will most probably look more like this:

Is everything clear up until now? Yes? Good.

Now why will you weigh yourself often if this doesn’t give you an idea of what is really going on?

As soon as you gain a little weight you will draw the conclusion that you are on the wrong path when possibly you are actually doing great.

Weighing yourself often does not allow you to see the bigger picture.

It is a bad habit that will make you (if not already) obsessive.

Focus on the right thing : focus on how you feel in general.

Rely on many parameters to assess your progress. Your energy level, your breathing capacity etc.

If you are feeling better and healthier, chances are you are doing things right and heading the right way.

Weight loss will follow, do not worry.

I suggest you to enroll in the sheismynutritionist club HERE and change your eating habits once and for all.
